The Love of My Afterlife <— Very quirky, lots of funny (and at times, over-the-top silly) but definitely a rainy day read to cheer you up, though it does get kind of deep at one point and pulled at my heartstrings, which I appreciated. I love some depth with my silly-sweet, you know? I liked it!! It wasn’t necessarily unputdownable and mind-blowing but it was fun and full of heart. And it was also unforgettable. I actually like it even more now looking back on it and writing this.
It gave me a HUGE blurb jolt when it first came out (WHAT A SYNOPSIS!! And Tasha J told me she liked it!!),
Tasha J: The Love of my Afterlife… fun, with heart.
Traci: Loved “love of my afterlife”
…so when it went on sale I one-clicked it SO HARD and started it reading it almost immediately!
But what I loved most about the book was how unique the storyline was. What a concept. So much potential to go anywhere, I could NOT guess (at least not right from the start) how this was going to go, so I was envisioning all sorts of scenarios and it kept me guessing. I mean… meeting your soulmate while both of you are in a sort of “heaven-waiting room”.
“This is strange.” His eyes narrow. “And it probably sounds totally like a line, but…I…feel like I’ve met you before. Like I know you…Does that sound nuts? It does, right?”
I nod quickly because I realise I feel the exact same way. I mean, I know I’ve never met this man before. I know that. But, right now, I’m experiencing a sort of peaceful sensation that I haven’t felt around anyone else, ever. It’s like this man knows me. Like he already knows all my foibles and bad habits and stressy thoughts, and he couldn’t give a hoot. Like he likes me despite, well, me. Like I’ve been missing him my whole life. It’s a strange feeling. A good feeling.
But wait… there’s more!!! ‘Cause your soulmate was there by mistake, and gets sent back to earth, and now what?
Merritt steps forward and presses her thumb right into the middle of his forehead. I scream as his whole body starts to shimmer before sort of bursting like a wet blowing bubble that’s just been popped. I look down at my hand, the one that was just holding his.
It’s empty.
No, no, no!
I think…I think I might have just met the only person I was ever truly supposed to meet.
And now he’s gone.
A second chance given to you by your “eccentric heavenly concierge” that is assigned to your death-to-heaven transition.
“I’ll give you ten days,” Merritt says decisively.
“Ten days?”
“Ten days back on Earth to find Jonah. If he kisses you, then you can stay.”
“I can stay alive? Like this never even happened? Like I’d never choked at all?”
“Yeah. But he has to kiss you. Of his own free will.”
And then.. two absolute twist-delights!! I told my colleague and new book bud Kelly to give this one a read (she is my constant, when it comes to book chat and book recommendations, these days). I told her what I loved most were the surprises! She’s my picky book-bud too, which I love. If she loves a book, I know it’ll be good. I told her I felt this one was probably 4-stars and she honored me by saying, “if it’s a 4 stars by you, I will read it!” YAY!!!! I warned her… it’s silly-ish but heartfelt.
The first twist came about quickly, when our heroine (who is pretty reclusive and uninterested in making friends) is sent back to earth for a second chance (but MUST find THAT soulmate – P.S. they didn’t exchange names in the process), in a certain amount of time, or else she dies again and gets pulled back to heaven. Well… that part is not the twist ’cause it’s in the synopsis, but I was delighted at the prospect of searching for her soulmate but even more so, when the potential for a love triangle kicked in. Oh oh. Her hot but super dismissive, grumpy (he has his reasons…), neighbor decides to help her out. *goosebumps* OH NO!!! OH YES PLEASE!!!
Cooper clears his throat, strides across the room, and sits on my sofa without being invited to. His jeans hitch up. His socks are yellow. I throw my hands up. “What do you want? I am currently trying to find my way out of a rather large life pickle and I’m short on time.”
“I see. Can I help?”
I narrow my eyes. He’d only be offering to help if…“You need another favour?” He shifts in his seat and runs his hand over his jaw.
“I do…” <— FAKE DATE ALERT!!!
Now… I was extra titillated.
But the second twist was… AH AH AHHHHH!!! Not going to say a word. It was a surprise that I didn’t see coming,
Kelly: The twist! 🥰
Maryse: Yessssssss!!!!! Tee hee!!!
…and felt really perfect in the grand scheme of this story about disconnection, re-connection, and creating a family from new friends.
Kelly: That was a good book, I really enjoyed it. Thank you.
Maryse: I’m so glad!! I loved that she accidentally created a circle of friends.
Kelly: It was great and I enjoyed the writing style.
3.75 to 4 stars – Cute, quirky and while a little predictable, it was also surprisingly… surprising. I didn’t expect that level of connection and friendship (something that I truly felt and that warmed my heart), considering our heroine’s funny-but-standoff-ish nature, and she didn’t expect it either. Which I loved. Everybody wins in this one!!

The Love of My Afterlife
I ONE-CLICKED IT (during that massive sale)! HOLY MOLY MY BIGGEST BLURB JOLT!!!
“A recently deceased woman meets “the one” in the afterlife waiting room, scoring a second chance at life (and love!) if she can find him on earth before ten days are up…
If she wasn’t dead already, Delphie would be dying of embarrassment. Not only did she just die by choking on a microwaveable burger, but now she’s standing in her ‘shine like a star’ nightie in front of the hottest man she’s ever seen. And he’s smiling at her.
As they start to chat, everything else becomes background noise. That is until someone comes running out of a door, yelling something about a huge mistake, and sends the dreamy stranger back down to earth. And here Delphie was thinking her luck might be different in the afterlife.
When Delphie is offered a deal in which she can return to earth and reconnect with the mysterious man, she jumps at the opportunity to find her possible soulmate…”

How am I supposed to leave this? This…life. Because what I was living ten days ago wasn’t a life at all. But this? This noise and laughter and mess and fear and…people. Friends. Possible love.
I can’t lose this.
